Video is one of my favorite mediums.
It possesses such power for storytelling and exploration. In this
section I’ve included works of video art, music videos, and
interactive video that I have made over the past few years. |

The eTV Prototyping Group works by prototyping applications on
current and hypothetical platforms, using narrative material drawn
from actual and planned television shows and by creating its own
narratives specifically designed for interactivity. This prototype
is a collaboration with the AFI Digital Content Lab and the History
Channel and focuses on a premium broadband service for viewers who
want in depth access to materials on World War II. The eTV prototype
is designed to enhance the presentation of historical documentaries
on television. The prototype exploits the encyclopedic nature of
digital media to deliver multiple human perspectives on the complex
events.
The World War II Experience assumes a broadband, video-on-demand
environment that merges the rich content of television with the
interactivity and archiving capabilities of the Internet.
The WWII Experience prototype takes as its focus one day in history,
D-Day (June 6th, 1944). The prototype features related clips from
key
wartime leaders, personal voices, and key events in time. It allows
the viewers to sort and choose from many video clips and to notice
the connections among related clips. Viewers can create their own
playlist and easily switch between the perspectives of American
and German leaders and participants. The prototype maximizes the
juxtaposition of canonical accounts of the war with local realities
through iconic images of key figures and personal stories. |

Rhinoctopus –
2004
interactive video instrument
Allison Sall + Paige Taylor |
|
|
Rhinocopus is an experimental Atlanta
Band. I paired with one of the members, Paige Taylor to create a
video instrument. The end prototype is a sensor infused silicone
controller that manipulates video images presented on screen.
By playing with the controller, a user is able to alter and change
the images that are projected. For instance, squeezing the controller
in one way results in a video of a flood of moving tentacles, while
bending the controller in another direction presents a flash of
sparkling rectangles. In addition, the overall video image bounces
and jiggles as the user explores the controller.

OnceTwice – 2002
diskette, Allison Sall |
|
|
I was invited to participate in the
digital music festival, Once Twice. I was matched with the 80’s
influenced laptop musician, Diskette. To compliment his music, I
created a video with home-shot footage that was taken in 1983. The
footage exposed my older brother, 12 at the time, performing his
break dancing moves in private. I attempted to transition his awkward
moments of practice into something graceful and confident.
